Patra's Other Place

I started out with Patra's Place, primarily dedicated to my linen collection and stitching projects. But I kept getting side-tracked, so I decided to create Patra's Other Place for anything not related to embroidery topics. So you now have a choice. If you are interested in me, read this. If you only want to see my linen and stitching, visit Patra's (original) Place! (Please note that by clicking on any of the photos, they will be enlarged to fill your computer screen.)

Melbourne Cup Day

It rained off and on for much of the day, but it wasn't as bad as we feared, and going by the televised coverage, everyone at Flemington seemed to be enjoying themselves despite the wet conditions. We had Ken's Mum over here for the afternoon to watch the Cup, and she enjoyed that, especially as I'd laid bets on two horses in the race for her. I'd bet on three, Ken had two, and my friend Sandra had three. She came over for the afternoon, and brought a bottle of champagne, so the four of us drank that while we cheered on our horses during the race! It is always more fun when you have at least one horse to follow, if not more. I put $2 each way on 'Americain', an American horse, owned by Australians, and trained in France. It won the race, so I collected $28.20 - a nice end to the day! One of Sandra's horses came third, so she was happy too. Ken and his mum both backed some of the favourites which didn't do well at all, but that is the luck of the draw in horse racing, isn't it? All a bit of fun once a year.
